Oh my lord! I cracking up laughing now, seeing that it was Jen who wrote my story! You guys did that to screw with my head, didn't you, since I would never expect it to come from someone whose work I know intimately. XD Meanies!

We tried to get people to choose their prompts this year, remember? In the case of very popular, highly-contested prompts (as yours were), we went with those who made the strongest case of REALLY REALLY wanting THAT ONE badly, because obviously the muse had already bitten. She won. :)

Those prompts just jumped into my head from somewhere, in like five seconds. I'd love to see anyone tackle the Newt/Anathema one someday.

I'm also amused looking at everything together... it seems we've had a decided downturn in the amount of mature rated work this year. Not saying it's bad, just kind of surprised me.

And am I seeing this correctly, or did we really have no dropouts or pinch-hits this year?

Well, there's been a numerical dropoff overall. We had 63 gifts last year and 40 this year. That's very significant, and I don't know why yet.

This year we only had ONE dropout -- who let us know in good time that zie couldn't finish, so we could integrate a pinch-hitter pretty seamlessly, so no harm done. Dropout, if you're reading this: THANK YOU for your honesty early on. We don't resent you. You are totally welcome to try again next year. So it's our best year ever in that regard, by far! \o/

Fandoms ebb and flow, I suppose. I also don't recall quite as many crossover prompts before. I think we're being assimilated into more well-known fandoms (which may or may not be good).

That's awesome though, for things to go so smoothly this year, esp. with last year being such a trial.

I had several friends tell me that they'd wanted to take part in the exchange but didn't like the new prompt type as it was too detailed and didn't offer enough flexibility.

I'm not a writer myself, so I wouldn't know, and I really enjoyed the stories posted but as you mentioned the decline in numbers I thought I'd pass it on.

It really hit so many of my buttons - it was atmospheric, had strong characterizations and amazing imagery.
